Losing Kylies Hut to the bushfires that roared through Crowdy Bay National Park in 2019-20 was devastating. With the expertise of local
Builder Paul Thompson, skilled in traditional woodwork techniques, National Parks sought to reconstruct the hut while preserving its important history and place in the hearts of many locals.
The rustic hut was originally built by a local character, Ernie Metcalfe, in the 1940s and used as a writer’s retreat by award-winning Australian author Kathleen ‘Kylie’ Tennant.
