Restorations/rebuilds

The challenge here was to rebuild the Hut as it was initially constructed after it been burned to the ground. With the expertise of local Builder Paul Thompson skilled in traditional hardwood and woodwork techniques, National Parks sought to reconstruct the hut while preserving its important history and place in the hearts of many locals. The rustic hut was originally built by a local character, Ernie Metcalfe, in the 1940s and used as a writer’s retreat by award-winning Australian author Kathleen ‘Kylie’ Tennant.
